Born in Neenah, Wisconsin on June 4, 1926 to Alice and Frank Broeren. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana and St. Mary’s High School, Menasha, Wisconsin.

On the evening of August 17, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, Dick passed away in the caring hands of Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care staff at Northwest Community Hospital.

Dick, “PopPop,” is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Susan Wagner Broeren; his children Molly Broeren (Bill Mosher), William F. Broeren, Richard Alan Broeren, Jr. (Patrice), Maggie Broeren (Michael Coffey), Kathryn M. Broeren, and Jane Lambesis (Peter J. Lambesis).

Grandchildren include M.J. Schiff, Andy Schiff (Melanie), Christi Walsh (Matt), Lizzy Mosher, Margaret Broeren (Bob Knutson), Jack Broeren, Will Broeren, Bob Broeren DeVito (Cassie), Sarah Sommario (Tom), Molly Kranovich (Matt), Colleen White (Barrett), Maura Ambroch (Benjamin), Katie Coffey, Annie Lambesis, Susie Lambesis, and Peter James Lambesis; his ten great grandchildren and three “great grands” on the way. Dick is preceded in death by his son Robert J. Broeren, and his grandchild Matthew B. Schiff. He is also survived by his brother John E. Broeren (Carol), five nieces and one nephew.

Fondly remembered for his charm, grace, and the genuine concern for the daily lives and joys of his family, Dick loved Notre Dame football and many Waupaca, Wisconsin vacations through the decades. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps, was active in both the Serra Club and St. Vincent DePaul Society, and helped establish parishes in communities where he lived. A dedicated employee of Sorg Paper Company for 40 years, he provided selflessly for his family, including putting all of their seven children through college.

Dad shared his love and faith with his family from the very beginning, and never wavered in his desire to seek heaven and guide others to that ultimate joy, “God Bless!”

Visitation will be held at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd, Mt Prospect, Illinois, on Friday, August 21 from 3:00 – 8:00  p.m. A prayer service will begin at 8 p.m. Lying in State Saturday,8:30 AM until Mass 9:30 a.m. at St. Raymond de Penafort Church, Elmhurst Rd. (Rt.83) at Lincoln St., Mt. Prospect. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Raymond for tuition assistance (wall.st-Raymond.org).
